Looking at an ingredient list can be an intimidating task – when you see all these weird and wonderful names of ingredients it makes you question, what on earth is that and why is it in my favourite product?

In this series of blog posts, we will look closely at the ingredients in the Glow Lab serums. We will look at what they are, what they do and why we chose to use them in our products.

So, lets jump into the crazy world of ingredients!

In this introductory blog we will take a brief look at each serum and the star ingredients found within each of them.

Watermelon Splash

Our hydrating serum. This serum contains ingredients that are shown to help improve the skins hydration as well as ingredients that have skin barrier protecting properties, because one of the key factors to youthful plump skin is a healthy skin barrier.

The key ingredients found in this serum are:

Hyaluronic acid (Sodium Hyaluronate) – known as one of the gold standard skin hydrating ingredients that boosts skins moisture content and prevents moisture loss.

Centella Asiatica (also known as tiger grass) – this ingredient often found in Korean skin care is a rich source of amino acids that help sooth compromised skin while also providing hydration and antioxidant properties.

Squalane – An emollient that helps prevent moisture loss and restores suppleness to the skin, it is lightweight and non-greasy.

Watermelon Extract (Citrullus Lanatus) – A potent antioxidant which is rich in vitamins, amino acids, and the phytonutrient lycopene. It also helps moisturise, plump, protect, and sooth the skin.

Ceramides – Improve the skins barrier strength, hydration, and suppleness, what more could you want?

Pineapple Power

Our brightening serum. Packed with ingredients that help improve dark spots, even out skin tone and provide a potent antioxidant boost, because we all know that non-stressed skin is the most radiant.

The key ingredients found in this serum are:

Vitamin C (Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate) – Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps even out dark spots as well as protects the skin from oxidative stress, inflammation, and the ageing process. Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate is a vitamin C derivative that is oxygen stable and converts into free vitamin C in the skin.

Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) – A multi-functional skincare ingredient that is known to help even out skin tone, minimise the appearance of pores, brighten dullness, reduce the appearance of dark spots while also supporting a healthy skin barrier.

Pineapple Fruit Extract (Ananas Sativus Fruit Extract) – Pineapple extract contains bromelain, an enzyme that helps to gently exfoliate the skin. This extract also has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial benefits as well as skin-soothing properties.

Liquorice Root Extract (Glycyrrhiza Glabra Root Extract) – A skincare superstar with significant depigmentation, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties.

Arbutin – An ingredient that addresses hyperpigmentation by fading dark spots and other discolorations, as well as improving the skin’s overall radiance.

Mulberry Magic

Our oil controlling serum. This formulation is designed to help balance sebum (oil) production while also helping calm irritated and red skin which often goes hand in hand with problematic skin.

The key ingredients found in this serum are:

Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) – Once again this amazing ingredient makes an appearance, as mentioned before this is a multi-functional skincare ingredient, in this formulation we rely on niacinamides ability to have sebum regulating and anti-inflammatory properties.

White Willow Bark Extract (Salix Alba Bark Extract) – A natural alternative to salicylic acid. Due to its salicin content white willow bark has anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties.

White Mulberry Root Extract (Morus Alba Root Extract) – White mulberry root extract helps calm stressed skin as well as reduces signs of environmental damage which promotes a brighter, more radiant skin tone.

Passion Fruit Seed Oil (Passiflora Edulis Sims Seed Oil) – Passion fruit oil has documented skin-soothing properties and is naturally high in linoleic acid which is supportive in maintaining a healthy skin barrier.
